RECOMMENDED READINGS FOR COUPLES

January 1, 2021

MINDFULNESS PERSPECTIVE:

Peggy Rowe Ward and Larry Ward. Love’s Garden: A Guide to Meaningful Relationships.

Andrea Miller (ed.). Right Here with You.

A collection of writings from a variety of teachers and therapists.

Thich Nhat Hanh. True Love.

Thich Nhat Hanh. How to Fight.

We recommend that you start with this little book.

OTHER:

Brene Brown. Daring Greatly: How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live and Love.

John M. Gottman. The Science of Trust: Emotional Attunement for Couples.

NOTE: This is the one book on this list which wouldn’t lend itself well to reading cover-to-cover together, because it is long and includes Gottman’s research and theory.  But if you have a scientitific  mind, we think this book would be valuable. For simpler reading, and for reading to each other:

John Gottman & Nan Silver. What Makes Love Last? How to Build Trust and Avoid Betrayal.

John Gottman & Nan Silver. The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work.
